Artist Statement/Bio:

Born and raised on the coast of Corpus Christi, TX Jonathan Aparicio grew up fascinated by aquatic life washed onto the shore from the ocean's tide. Local botantical gardens where a haven for inspiration from textual barks and the exoskeleton species in the area. From an early age he also began making alterations in his clothes with his grandmother's assistance. The simple changes he made in his garments grew into a passion for design that would follow him through his adolescent life into adulthood.

 

He is currently working on his B.F.A in fashion design at the University of North Texas (UNT) within the College of Visual Arts and Design (CVAD). Throught his college career he has been competitive in several fashion shows including the Design Inudustries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA), and he was awarded a scholarship from Neiman Marcus in 2009. His main goal is to one day create his own fashion line which would afford him the opportunity to work among influential designers within the industry. His play on fabric manipulation and textures prove his individuality and distinctive point of view. Every stitch, style line, and seam becomes a statement of his unique sense of clothing and artistic ability.
